I admit it….I have a need for speed.

Not necessarily speedy driving, but I do enjoy fast airplane flights, fast shopping trips, and fast internet speed.

I’m not the only one who thinks that the last item is important.

Google announced recently that effective July 2018, page speed will be a ranking factor for mobile internet searches.

While Google’s new “Speed Update” is expected to only affect a small portion of search queries and pages that deliver the slowest experience to users, now is a great time to look over your website’s mobile version.

Don’t assume that your website looks great to everyone because it looks fine on your computer. Pull up your website on your phone or tablet, take a good look, and ask yourself three questions:

Did it load fast? Is any content distorted, illegible, or missing? Is the site’s menu easy to navigate?

While page speed will be important to Google come July, it is even more important now to your website’s human visitors. Microsoft did a study a few years ago that determined that the average person loses attention in eight seconds.

Now, go back to your website and take a second look while counting to eight seconds. Get a feel for how fast that is—-and see if it is possible for someone to get a good understanding of your business or your ministry in EIGHT seconds or less.

If the answer’s no, it’s time to rethink the content and layout of your homepage.
