How do you spell bliss? I don’t care what Webster’s says, but in my dictionary it is spelled D-A-R-K C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E C-O-V-E-R-E-D C-H-E-R-R-I-E-S.
But not just any old chocolate covered cherries, like the ones that taste like dried up raisins or that dare to call their coating “chocolate” when it is full of soybean oil and who knows what else.
One of my culinary weaknesses is for Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries. I discovered this delectable snack on a trip to California for a tennis tournament a few years ago and was promptly hooked. So badly, in fact, that the next year, the minute I drove into Indian Wells, before I even checked into my hotel, I was back at Trader Joe’s.
I came home well-stocked, but sadly, even at a cherry-a-day, I finally ran out. Unfortunately, TJ’s are not available in Texas, so I was left to bemoan my fate of eating mediocre cherries.
Last Wednesday, I was sitting at my desk with a bad case of the munchies. I’d already been through a bowl of pasta and a fistful of Lay’s Stax, when my thoughts drifted toward more sweet offerings. As I kept working and thinking about what to eat, the door bell rang with a surprise package from a dear friend and client in Ohio.
Needless to say, I almost did a happy dance in my kitchen as I opened the box and was deliciously surprised by a box of Trader Joe’s dark chocolate covered cherries. As I opened the box and popped one in my mouth, I almost wept tears of joy as the delicate chocolate melted in my mouth, mixed with the sweet and tangy juiciness of a REAL PLUMP cherry.
