Anyone can start a business, but running a business with wisdom is not easy. Thankfully, God has given us an entire book of wisdom–Proverbs. Here are six business lessons you can learn from the book of Proverbs about running your organization wisely.

6 Business Lessons from Proverbs

Proverbs 27:23
“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.”

Whether you sell a product or offer a service, be sure you know your field well. Know the condition of your products. Hone your area of expertise. Take good care of your customers and clients. Diligence in these areas will reap a great reward.

Proverbs 11:1
“A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.”

The Lord delights in integrity. Be sure to always walk with integrity when running your business. Do you report your income accurately to the IRS? Are you completely honest with your customers? If so, the Lord will honor you. When you walk in integrity, the Lord will bless your efforts.

Proverbs 14:1
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”

Pay careful attention to how your actions affect your business. Are you building or tearing down? Are you using your God-given influence beneficially to build into your business or are you taking something from your business? The wise continually build their houses.

Proverbs 31:15
“She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.”

This wise woman gets up early to take care of those whom she employs. A wise manager takes good care of her employees, making sure they have everything they need to do well at their jobs.

Proverbs 3:9-10
“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”

If you trust God with the firstfruits of your earnings, He will bless your business. Trust God as your provider, not your own hands.

Proverbs 13:11
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.”

Get rich quick schemes can seem alluring, but the wise businessperson is not afraid to work hard and invest himself into his business. It is wealth gained through personal labor that will last.
